Program Overview

Structural Biology and Biophysics (SBB) is a PhD graduate program track designed for students who wish to tackle biomedical problems at a molecular or atomic level using approaches of structural biology and/or biophysics. Through the SBB curriculum, our students learn various concepts in structural biology and biophysics as well as technical and problem-solving skills required to successfully conduct structural biology / biophysics research. The biophysical components cover both experimental and computational research. The SBB program provides skills and knowledge required for various career paths after graduation (see Career Development).

The SBB track is one of the three tracks of the Biochemistry, Cellular and Molecular Biology (BCMB) graduate program of the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB). Students on the SBB track have numerous opportunities to interact with students and faculty on the other tracks of BCMB and gain a broad perspective and skill set for biomedical research.

Students admitted to this program are guaranteed full fellowship support plus full health benefits throughout their graduate career, as long as they make satisfactory progress toward their degree. Only faculty who can provide sufficient support from their research grants are allowed to accept students.
