Admission to the MBET program

Selection Criteria

Graduate students are selected on the basis of prior academic achievement, as well as on degree of motivation and future promise for careers in scientific research and teaching. The Molecular Biophysics Educational Track confers only PhD degrees. Students entering the program enroll in an academically rigorous degree plan, tailored to their individual backgrounds and interests, with strong emphasis on independent laboratory research.

Online Application

The University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) uses a common application form for admissions to its Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences (which contains the Graduate Program in Biophysical, Structural, and Computational Biology), its School of Allied Health Sciences, and its School of Nursing. All applications are processed through UTMB's Office of the Registrar.

Please follow these directions when using the online application:

  1. The MBET program keyword in the following application is: PDBMSB.
  2. Go to The UTMB Online Application and select new applicant registration form under the first time application section, and complete the form. This establishes an account for you.
  3. Completely fill out the application, including remitting the application fee, providing letters of reference, etc. The system incrementally saves your online application information, so you don't have to fill it all out at once.
  4. Suggested: Go to our Contact page and let our program coordinator know that you will be applying to our program. Let her know if you have any questions or comments.
